Last of the old cakes ;-)

I forgot to add this one! The cake similar to this one, which has the springy colors on top, was inspired by this cake! This is wrapped in fondant and has fondant balls around both bases.

Cakes, set #5

This bright one is my most recent creation that was a spin off the original 13 year old's birthday cake. The springy colors were so good for my soul! :-)
For a baby shower, I made this "pea in a pod" themed cake. What I liked about this cake was the coordination of the cake with the frosting. What I mean is that the top tier had strawberry cake with white icing, and the bottom tier had white cake with burgundy frosting. Isn't it festive?
I made two smash cakes for two separate 1st birthday parties. They were virtually identical, because they had very similar themes, and we had to have chocolate for the dramatic picture affect!
The above photo was meant to resemble presents stacked on top of one another! I thought it turned out pretty cute.
Here is the other 1st birthday party cake....complete with a tiara on top!

I made this red velvet cake and dyed the frosting pink. It's pretty generic, but was worth posting, nonetheless.

Cakes, set #4, and homemade dough specialties!

This was supposed to be a Cinderella carriage cake, but turns out, it looks nothing like one because another cake came up at the last second, and they received the special treatment as a paying customer. Poor Abigail. Maybe next year!
This was a retro cake with bright fun colors!
I can't, for the life of me get this picture to turn the right direction, so here it is, sideways! I again embarked on a buttercream rose making adventure. Still getting there. :-)
On a not-so-cake-y note, I make homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch, and this is one of the "tea rings" I made Valentines weekend. It is complete with pecans and cherries on top!
With the same homemade dough, I make pecan rolls and they're soooooo tasty! This was intended to be heart shaped, but I'm not sure if it really looks like it.

Cupcake Tree Fun

The bright colors were for Dylan's first birthday. I was completely getting the cupcake tree stand for Christmas, and I busted it out of the box a month early! :-)
I learned how to make carnation-ish flowers on cupcakes using buttercream! Aren't they festive? I mixed the one on the left with some white and gave it a fun mix. I could do this with any color combo! You wanna talk about festive on a cupcake tree.....wow!
This girl-ish tree went with the Barbie cake.
These went with the large cupcake smash cake, and was appropriately displayed on Valentine's Day.
Here are some plastic rings stuck in cupcakes. Aren't they festive?

Cakes, set #3

For this Tinkerbell cake, I tried my hand at flower making with buttercream flowers. Not a great picture, but it gets the idea across. I took several at different angles (as I do with most cakes I make) so if you were truly interested in it, I could hook you up!
This Barbie cake was for a 5 year old birthday party. It is wrapped in fondant and has some buttercream accents, and some fondant accents.
This was a Valentine chocolate cake with peanut butter filling and ganache poured over the whole thing. It was rich and delicious! I don't eat my own cakes very often!
The cupcake was a large smash cake for a 1 year old.
The music and drama cake was for two teen siblings parties.

Cakes, set #2, and truffles!

The far left is a food creation I made for a superbowl party. While most football parties include cheese dip, mine included a topiary truffle tree. The varieties included were oreo balls, peanut butter balls, and cake balls! Mmmm!

This teenage birthday cake was based off the movie "Twilight" and this is what I came up with!

The Elmo cake was such a big awkward cake that it was hard to get a good shot of....so I posted two pictures of it.

The Hotel for Dogs movie came out so an 11 year old had that kind of party, so wanted a corresponding dog related cake, and this is what I came up with!

Cakes, set #1

This cake is slightly x-rated because it was a bachelorette party cake. She wanted cake, and I wanted practice, so here is the result!
This chocolate dream cake was my first and only wedding "reception" cake to date. It was done for one of my chiropractors in September. Though you can't see it, there is this chocolate bow on top that is quite cute!
Here is a cake made out of entirely edible things, which is something I require most of the time. The actual doghouse is a dummy cake. We cheated! I had to throw it in though!
This was my final project for my Wilton Course III class. And if you're wondering, NO I have not yet taken course I or course II or course IV. I'm just that girl. :-)
This was my second cake in course III, and my first experience with fondant. I got tired of rolling balls and decorating it, so I quit. You'll be able to see if you look closely that I elected not to finish it!

Cake #1

This is my first "cake" after starting Wilton Course III at Michaels. I wanted to practice my techniques, so I frosted Abby's shoe box and practiced away!

Cake blog starts today!

I've joined the blogging world! I thought this might be a good way to share my cakes and other dessert designs with interested eaters. :-)
